Ohiwa Harbour Weekend

Kev and I are just back from a few days in Ohiwa Harbour, between Opotiki and Ohope.

Fabulous place to take your fisherchick, or your fisho. A great mix of cafes, culture and, of course, fishing. We kayaked and I caught my first snapper off a kayak. We surfcasted and I caught my first hammerhead shark. This was in a bay on the southern side of Opotiki. Aside from a lovely lady and her 4 wheeler and rods, we had the beach to ourselves! That night we went floundering in Ohiwa Harbour. There are so many ways to fish in this area without having a boat. We also got a bucketful of tua tuas at Ohope. It is a truly wonderful part of New Zealand.
We are going to go back there and explore some more and bring you a more detailed destination article in an upcoming Bay Fisher Magazine issure - hopefully before winter kicks in!!
