Snapper Fishing on the Improve in the Bay

The snapper fishing has been hard over the last couple of months but with the water temp getting up over the last two weeks the Snapper have turned up to play both in Tauranga Harbour and along Papamoa to about 18m and its a a similar story off Matakana. The weather looks a bit dodgy for the weekend so the the Kaituna cut might be a bit marginal but don’t let this put you off fishing the Snapper are biting hard in the harbour and with a bit of effort you should be in.

My big Tauranga snapper

Had to send this pic of my fish. We were out at 2 mile reef? Tauranga and had been fishing for hours catching one tarakihi and some undersized snapper bottom fishing. I was getting a bit bored so moved to the bow of the boat where I had to kind of hang on with one hand and threw over a soft bait and wham look what I caught. The soft bait was a nuclear chicken and I am now a big fan.
