50kg Kingfish The Big news

Dave Howes – 50kg Kingfish The Big news comes from The Big Fish Fishing Club where weighmaster Dave Howes has weighed a kingfish at a wopping 50kg!! The fish was caught off Pursuit at the Ranfurly Banks on 15kg mono and wasn’t weighed until 2 days after capture. The fish was caught in about 70m of water with a jack mackerel live bait on a 6/0 Black Magic live bait hook. There were 5 guys fishing at the time, 2 on 37kg mono and 2 jigging on 37kg braid - so the dancing and weaving was pretty spectacular!Click here to read more

44 kg kingfish at caught Ranfurly Banks!

Just last week (20th Jan2010) I was on my first charter with 6 mates at "Ranfurly Banks" on "Rick Pollicks" boat "PURSUIT" based "Whakatane" when I was lucky to land a 44 kg Yellow Tail Kingfish. Caught on 37kg mono "6" bar black magic hook and Gimble harness. Fight time to land 25 minutes, many thanks to "Rick (captain) and deckie "Zane" for their tremendous knowledge and skills helping secure this prize fish.

Kev's kingfish!!

The Bayfisher blokes escaped the gardening for a second time on Saturday, for what proved to be one of the best kingfish jigging fishing days - EVER for Mark and Kevin and a couple of mates, Nik from Saltflyer, and Ben. All the stars must have been aligned - I was kingie heaven! During the day around 25 kingies were caught and released, with the largest being 35kg! This was the biggest fish Kev has ever caught. It was caught on a jigging master rod, accurate reel and 50lb braid and 100lb leader on a 300gm orange jig.Click here to read more

Kingfish are on fire again in BOP and north

Mayor full of Kingis!

This photo is from a overnight trip  on the Nimble 11 last Saturday to Mayor Island. They are all members of the Dowling Family.

Bay Fishing Charters have a policy of one kingi per angler, and the others are catch and release. Looks like these guys hit the jackpot!

Singaporean Jigfishers hit jackpot

Three keen anglers from Singapore, Gimson, Lionel and Mr Chen took the opportunity on Sunday to try their luck on the local kingfish population aboard the local charter boat Deception Bay. Having not had any luck in the Bay of Islands earlier in the week, with the marlin fishing, the guys were gaggling to bend their rods to something big. A plan was hatched, and the arrangements made. After a stuttering start in Rotorua, the three arrived at the bridge marina a little after 8am. Their specialised rods and jigs were loaded under the close watch of the crew sporting a few raised eyebrows!Click here to read more

Matakana Magic

Kellie Anthony caught this 7kg kingfish (80cm) off Matakana whilst softbaiting. She was using Gulp! baits. Matakana must be on fire at present by the look of all the snapper her team got as well. Did you leave some us? I guess the party is at you place!!! Well done.
